UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed a number of intriguing future games, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a young woman containing multiple human souls inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her reside four distinct souls, each with unique anxieties and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action takes place within a eerie hospital, though additional clips depict the main character exploring a abandoned church.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to other people can activate something primal within us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to each person."

The central gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will change involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become amplified and assault the girl one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the waiting room have enormous blooms where their heads should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the body is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, since every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
