Tottenham Manager Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Real Supporters'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Tension on Frank

Spurs supporters who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "those individuals cannot be true Tottenham fans" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of goals in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth Premier League at home defeat of 2025.

But the main topic of discussion was the visitors' next score when the keeper lost possession well beyond his area.

The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a long ball and carried the ball towards the sideline.

But, instead of booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.

The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six yards.

Seconds later when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Spurs supporters jeered him.

The team were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.

One of those jeering sessions really angered Frank.

"It came to my attention some of our supporters reportedly jeered the situation and jeered following, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Dane commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"[They] cannot be true Spurs fans that act that way. Alright booing following the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind each other moving ahead."

Tete had given the visitors a early lead before Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second-half showing.

Ex- Premier League keeper Joe Hart remarked that the next goal was "completely avoidable".

"I certainly understand the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I am aware the role Vicario is performing. He is a excellent squad member, he's a real leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.

"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the decisive score."

'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game

Italian international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

The 29-year-old said after the match that he had to accept the criticism.

"That score was a error of my own, I accept accountability for that," he said.

"My aim was to clear the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a bad manner. It was an more difficult challenge to climb."

He stated receiving jeers "comes with the game".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "The team can't be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.

"It is on us to stay increasingly calm, to concentrate on ourselves. The team is missing in composure and poise to reverse results. Today is a poor defeat and it's tough to take."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Line'

In spite of the keeper's error, it was far from an easy score for Harry Wilson to score.

In fact it was the next most distant top division score of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on Saturday.

The goalscorer said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.

10 seconds passed between Vicario exiting of his box and Wilson shooting – which was 5 moments following the kick.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson said.

"I was surprised not one of the back four returned to the line. When not one of them covered the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which gave me a bit of additional opportunity. After that it was solely about attempting to make the correct contact and place it towards goal. I felt a positive sense, the moment it left my foot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Go Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank

Although Vicario's mistake dominated headlines, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to continue their home ground struggles.

This was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the league, a shared team statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

The side still have home games against the manager's old side the Bees and champions Liverpool to come before the end of the year.

Just a single of those wins have occurred after the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"If you are down 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated Frank.

"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects seems to work against you as well – the first was a deflected attempt, the second is a mistake from the keeper.

"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have suffered another game. Each fixture has a unique story, this game we lost in the early stages.

"We simply need to keep working. The second half was much better and hopefully something we can use to learn."

Tottenham have been defeated in four consecutive home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging nine point five shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their poorest averages on record in a one season (since at least 2003-04).

Former Fulham midfielder Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He must take the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He's taken a high profile job at a major football club with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.

"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
