Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Manager Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side only half a year after starting insulting chants targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has signed a deal with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road was ended amicably this past summer.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead insulting songs regarding Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the former England international is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Past Conflict Between the Striker & the Manager
Both men had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
All seems to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford hoping to revive his career.
The song about Wilder went viral in April. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him calling me.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Career Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
