Context of Sentencing

Bolsonaro was convicted of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Top judicial officials said that he was aware of a plot which involved plans to murder the current president and his running partner, Alckmin, and to detain and kill the presiding judge - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over Bolsonaro's trial.
