Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
